Friend of mine and I were planning to visit some place for photography for quite some time. Just that we could not meet up for one or the other reason.
Before last week, we got in touch again and we zeroed in on Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary AKA Sultanpur National Park.
Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is a very popular national park of India. located in Sultanpur village, Farukhnagar,Gurugram district in Haryana State. Sultanpur village is located 40 km from Dhaula Kuan in Delhi and 15 km from old Gurugram city on the Gurugram – Jhajhar highway. This Bird Sanctuary, ideal for birding and bird lookers, is best visited in winters when a large number of migratory birds come here.
Best Time to visit : Dec to Feb.
It closes from June to September.
The place is good for birding.
Plenty of large birds. Stork, Ibis, Heron……..
Painted Stork are a large migratory birds. they grow as tall as 1 mtr or so. They are fun to watch when they glide past quite close.
Though there were many other big birds like, Black headed Ibis, Grey Heron, I just focused on Painted Storks.
They pluck the tree twigs to build the nest and then get married and raise a family and move on, year on year.
Here are some pictures of them nesting, parenting.
You may visit the following web site for more info on the national park. I just found it informative.
