Osthofen – a small little town in state of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany.
No I do not write here the population, location, latitude, longitude, altitude and distance from Frankfurt and how to reach here. No way. You can find it all in Osthofen website in a better way than I would have explained.
I will just show many wonderful photographs, which you will probably not find anywhere but here.
Concentration Camp :
Some historical info about the camp :
Directly after igniting the Reichstag fire, the National Socialists and Reichspräsident von Hindenburg accused the communist party. With the president on ther side, nobody could stop the National Socialists for eliminating the political enemies. Thousands of communists were arrested and imprisoned by the Gestapo. In March 1933, the first political prisoners arrived at concentration camp Osthofen. Till the autumn of 1933 the camp was under SA control, after this period it came under control of the SS. In total, there were 3,000 internees imprisoned in this camp. In contrast of other concentration camps there were no deaths in KZ Osthofen. Nevertheless, the internees suffered from abusing, disease, hard work and bad hygienic conditions. The detention duration amounted to usually 4 to 6 weeks, in individual cases up to one year. In May 1934 all German concentration camps were reorganized and it was concluded that Osthofen was not useful anymore. July that same year, KZ Osthofen was closed.
Music concert in local park :
Here people love to socialise with family and friends. Families come together to enjoy the “English Music” and enjoy the vine, beer and the food. Yes, Germans like English music as I understood.
River Rhine :
River Rhine is close by. Sit on the bank of the river, you will forget the time.
Below are views of River Rhine
Cycling across the town :
Cycling is a nice experience. Well, not during the wet winter. Summer, Autumn, and a sunny day in winter is most ideal for cycling. There are many cycling tracks. Well marked and defined. Only word of caution is that you must be really careful while cycling on a highway.
You will encounter many beautiful landscapes on the outskirts of the town.
If you want see some group of people, then visit a restaurant. There plenty of them in this small town. Families like to go out and enjoy a meal together especially on weekends.
Market place :
There are supermarkets in one location. Aldi, Lidl, Wasgau, Edeka, NKD, KIK etc are all in one place.
There are few sports clubs which provides Sports, Games, Yoga, etc. Well maintained, equipped indoor courts. Courts are multi purpose type. Same hall can facilitate, for Shuttle or hand bal or basket ball or Yoga or a party.
Train Station :
Well connected between two main cities – Worms and Mainz. There is a train every 30 minutes. Small nice station. There are two restaurants too. A local post office is also in the same complex. There is one stone memorial in front of the station. I could not get more info. I will update when ever I get to know more.
A small beautiful town. It has features of any big city except big malls and Cinema. It would not have been a town if it were to house the busy malls and cinema. Isn’t it ?
The beauty is in the eyes of the onlooker than in the subject itself it is said. Osthofen is not a tourist place by the way. No tourist comes here to stay and visit. This does not prevent me from bringing out the underlying beauty of the place.
Some one might be curious now – why then I wrote about it. I wrote since I found the beauty in it. of course I stay here and have the opportunity to explore.
